The US House of Representatives is set to vote next week on legislation that would require states to verify both citizenship and photo identification before allowing individuals to vote.

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana) and Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) confirmed the vote on the SAVE America Act in an interview with Just the News. The bill combines two election integrity measures that previously passed the House separately but stalled in the Senate.

Roy is the bill’s chief sponsor in the House, joined by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) in the Senate.

Scalise said the measure would force lawmakers to take a clear position on election security, arguing voters already must show identification for many routine activities.

Roy said President Donald Trump suggested the bill’s name and is expected to urge senators to support it. He also cited polling showing broad public backing for voter ID requirements.

The legislation would amend the 1993 National Voter Registration Act to require proof of US citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections. Supporters say the bill would strengthen election integrity ahead of the 2026 election.
