CDC ignores the Moderna flu shot and does not add it to its list for this fall’s flu shot choices

This action by CDC is very interesting.

By law (the 2016 21st Century Cures Act) the CDC Director is obligated to put all newly licensed vaccines in front of the ACIP committee to get them approved and out to the public as quickly as possible. [The role of FDA is to approve a vaccine, while the CDC Director then decides for whom—which demographics—that drug is appropriate, after the ACIP has evaluated it.]

With the legality of the newly appointed ACIP committee the target of an ongoing legal action, it appears that the CDC Director has been able to bypass ACIP and make her own determination about what CDC will recommend. Interesting.

(BTW, I’m still exhausted from this respiratory illness, so I will be giving my talk for the 9/11 Turning the Tide conference by Zoom on Sunday. That’s why I’ve been so quiet.)
